Living and Leading with a Hearing Loss
Amy Becktell, Chapter Leader

How did a shy girl from Chattanooga, Tennessee become a leader and advocate for hearing loss in western Colorado?
Amy Becktell, the Chapter Leader, will talk about growing up and living with a hearing loss, and how it has shaped her life.
She will share hearing loss experiences, both positive and negative, that she has had in her personal and professional life.
Amy was born and raised in Tennessee. She has a degree in music education, and taught school for two years. She also has degrees in accounting and computer science.
As her hearing grew worse over the years, she struggled to stay a part of the fast-paced corporate world. In 1989, she found support and opportunities
for leadership when she became involved with Self Help for Hard of Hearing People (SHHH), the former name of HLAA. Come learn how HLAA can provide opportunities for you!
Captioning for this meeting is sponsored from a grant from the Colorado Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
An induction hearing loop is available. Refreshments will be served.
People of all ages and all types of hearing loss are welcome!
All HLAA chapter meetings are free to members and non-members, including family and friends.
Meetings are held the first Saturday of the month, 10:30-12:30.
